What is
dental consultation?

A dental consultation is a regular dental visit at the dentist’s office. A dental consultation is essentially an assessment of your teeth’ existing state. You may be concerned or worried about the present status of your teeth if you have not seen a dentist in a while, but do not worry we are here to help you in the best of your favor.

Importance of dental consultation for children and adults

Dentists frequently tell us that we require a dental health consultation emphasizing how critical this process is for oral health. But we often do not understand what this implies or what a consultation comprises, which can cause undue tension and anxiety before you even get to the dental clinic.

The procedure of dental consultation

Our dentists and dental hygienists follow some basic steps in regular dental consultation. When you get to our dental clinic our dental team will guide you regarding the appointments and scheduling. You can even book a consultation with us via phone or email address.

Initially, your medical and dental history is noted thoroughly. Please corporate with us and disclose all your previous and current medical and dental history and any medications that you are using. This will help us to devise a care/treatment plan specially customized for you. After completing medical and dental history your oral assessments will begin and they will include the following

Oral cancer screening

Oral screening examination is an essential part of the dental consultation that is mainly focused on checking for oral cancer symptoms within the oral cavity and in the head and neck region. Soft tissues (gums, cheeks, tongue, palate, and tonsillar area are thoroughly checked to look for unusual patterns, unusual consistency, bumps, scars, and lesions. Besides, the head and neck region is also examined thoroughly. Any suspicious thing found is then referred to the dentist or oral surgeon for further investigation.

Gums evaluation

Next in line is the evaluation of the gums. Gums play an integral part in our mouth: it supports and anchors our teeth and provide aesthetics as well. Gum diseases are common, however; they can be prevented and reversed (at initial). Gingivitis and periodontitis are the common gum diseases that usually initiate because of poor oral hygiene. At your dental consultation, our expert dentists and dental hygienists will comprehensively look for the parameters of gum disease that can be identified and categorized by checking the consistency, bleeding, texture, shape, size, and color of the gums. If any sign or symptom of gum disease is noticed, immediate treatment is recommended to treat the gums.

Teeth evaluation

Similar to the gums, teeth are crucial and provide important functions in the overall health of our body. Unhealthy and compromised teeth lead to pain, poor aesthetics, chewing problems, body malnutrition, and mental stress. It is, therefore, essential to have a comprehensive checkup of the teeth to avoid such problems. Our dentists and dental hygienists will examine each tooth from all sides to look for any cavity, crack, fracture or malpositioning. A caries risk assessment will be prepared based on your dietary habits and oral hygiene regimens. This will help our dental professionals to see the teeth disease pattern (if any) over some time.

Radiographs

Often only the clinical examination is not enough to state whether your teeth and gums are in good health or not. So, radiographical examinations of your teeth are then performed to look for the tissues that visible clinically such as are roots, jaw bone, and other tooth-supporting structures.

All these examinations are crucial to catch the gums, teeth, and other oral diseases at the early stages. After all the examination and assessments, a patient-centered care and treatment plan is then devised for you. Treatment appointments are then scheduled if required.
